Original watercolor paintings are created using different techniques. Two of these techniques are very popular among watercolor artists and both achieve entirely different results. The first technique is called wet on wet. You can tell a painting is done in this manner by looking at the colors and seeing the many different washes. With the wet on wet technique, the paints create their own patterns and textures and are left to freely run and fill the paper on their own with a minimal guidance from the artist. The other technique is a dry brush technique and lends itself more to a drawing result.
